2016 Frostbite Series: Round 2
Blake Davis competed in the second round of the 2016 Frostbite Series this past weekend. It was his first race after he and his dad switched his Honda Grom to a GP style shift. Typically in the United States a rider uses his or her foot to pull up on the shifter to move to a higher gear. With the GP shift, the rider must push down instead of pulling up on the shifter to move into a higher gear.
Despite the change in shift style Blake finished second in his first race of the series! Nice job Blake!
Placing 4th in qualifying, Blake held a solid starting position for the Formula 3 Advanced class. There were 18 racers on the starting grid. Blake took off and almost rear-ended a stalled racer in front of him, however, he managed to get around the bike. Blake was now in 17th place going into the 1st turn. He still had 10 laps ahead to try and maneuver his way towards the lead. Blake did a great job and finished 0.04 seconds behind 7th place!
Blake qualified 1st on his KTM65 in the Middle-Weight Advanced class, however, the most “exciting” race of the day for Blake was the SuperMini race on his KTM65. The race was red-flagged due to an initial crash resulting in a restart. Blake ended up finishing in 4th place and he was excited to get his lap times down into the 40’s. Congratulations on a successful race weekend!
